Study Summary
The study focuses on the evaluation of library automation softwares on the basis of certain important checkpoints. As there are a number of library automation packages available in the market, it is important for the librarians and information professionals to keep in mind some basic aspects before selection of library software. This study will therefore provide guidelines in the selection or development of appropriate software packages to Nepalese librarians. All the information for evaluation has been taken from Websites of software companies, books, thesis reports, and other sources of information.
After studying the features of all popular Library management packages, and evaluating the present software packages installed in academic institutions of Nepal, the author comes to the conclusion that Softlink Alice is the best performer and is in the 1st competitive position. The overall evaluation was done on the basis of the following factors in each library management package:

The article describes the concept of federated searching and it also demarcates the difference between meta searching and federated searching which are synonymously used. Due to rapid growth of scholarly information, need of federated searching arises. Article also covers various federated search providers and at the end system advantages and drawbacks in federated search have been listed.
